Learning About Septic Services

Welcome to my site. My name is Jorge. The septic company sent a notice to my home recently about pumping out the tank. After living in my home for a few years, it was time to service the septic tank to keep it in good condition for years afterward. I watched in awe as the septic truck cleared the tank and restored the function of the system. I will use this site to discuss the process of servicing the septic tank. I will also talk about repairs commonly performed on the septic components. I hope you will visit often to learn more.

Maintaining A Septic System

Rose Austin

A septic system is a delicate ecosystem that allows your sewage to be broken down and transported out of your home. Having a septic problem in your home is a messy and expensive situation. It is never fun to have to go through a septic problem, but the good news is there are ways that you can prevent a problem from arising. A few simple steps and actions can make your septic system flow with no problems. Here are a few different ways that you can keep your septic system up and running without any hiccups.

Garbage

One of the biggest problems that people run into with their plumbing when they have a septic system is garbage. A septic system does not handle garbage and food very well. When a septic system is backed up, it is very common to find things such as plastic wrappers, plastic bags, cigarette butts, or even condoms. These types of materials are sure to back up your septic system. Another major problem is food form the disposal. Grease and other types of foods do not break down in a septic tank very well and can sit for a very long time. Over time, these issues can cause a septic system to get backed up.

Liquid Drain Cleaners

If you are hooked up to city sewer, a liquid drain cleaner is no problem, but on a septic tank, a liquid drain cleaner is not a good idea. The liquid drain cleaners on the market are a powerful way to clean out a clogged drain, but they are extremely basic, with a PH around 11. The liquid is actually able to kill the bacteria in your septic system, and these bacteria are vital to the breakdown of sewage. If these bacteria are killed, the sewage is likely to get backed up, and you are going to have a major problem. Instead of a liquid clog remover, use a pipe snake.

Pump Your Tank

Every other year, you should have your tank pumped. It does not matter if you have not experienced any problems. Over time, even a well operating septic system can have buildup of sewage and other problems. Cleaning the septic tank and any accompanying routine septic repairs every other year is the best way to ensure that you do not have any major septic tank problems. A little money upfront and you will be saving money by never having a major issue.
